Deleting your account
You can delete your account from inside the app, without contacting us. Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone.
In the app
- Open Settings.
- Open Account.
- Choose Delete Account and confirm.
Deleting the app on its own does not delete your account — messages would keep arriving at the account until you delete it or the server gives up on delivery.
What deletion removes
- Your account and its ability to receive anything.
- Your profile: display name, photo and about text.
- Your username, which is released and can be taken by someone else.
- Your encrypted backup data and its keys held on the server.
- Any messages still queued for delivery to you.
Messages you already sent are on the recipients' devices. We have no copy and no way to reach into their devices, so deleting your account does not remove them.
What is kept, and how to have it removed
The record linking your email address to its internal account identifier survives deletion. It is what makes the address usable again: sign in later with the same address and you return to your own account rather than being locked out. We think that is the right default, but it is your data.
To have that record erased too, email xiaosan9288@gmail.com from the address in question with "Erase email record" in the subject line. We delete it within 30 days and write back to confirm. Afterwards the address behaves as though it had never registered, and registering again creates a genuinely new account — your contacts will see a changed safety number.
Requesting a copy first
If you want your data before deleting, ask at xiaosan9288@gmail.com first — once the account is gone we cannot reconstruct it.
