Vutalk encrypts every message and call on your device. There is no number and no email address to hand over — and the only way anyone finds you is a username you chose to share.
Vutalk is built so that the server never holds anything worth reading: no keys, no phone numbers, no address books. This is what that looks like.
Encrypted before it leaves your device.
Messages, calls, attachments, group names and member lists are encrypted on your phone. Our servers relay ciphertext and hold no key — so there is nothing for us, or for anyone who compels us, to read.
Wait, is this actually you? It's me. No number needed.

Nothing to hand over at the door.
Most messengers make a phone number the price of entry, then turn it into your identity. Vutalk asks for neither a number nor an email address: you get an Account ID and a recovery key, and the only thing anyone can look you up by is a username you chose to share.

No upload, no matching — not on our servers, not in an enclave, not at all. There is no setting to turn off, because there is nothing to turn off. An account can only be reached by someone who was handed its username.

Verifiable encryption. Not blind faith.
Encryption only helps if the key belongs to the person you think it does. Every conversation has a safety number derived from both identity keys. Compare it once, in person or over another channel, and Vutalk will stop and warn you if it ever changes.
Key transparency runs underneath: the mapping from an account to its public keys is published in an append-only log, so a server handing out a substituted key leaves permanent evidence.
Not one label but five mechanisms, each doing one job. We use published, peer-reviewed designs rather than anything of our own invention, and the security page also says what each layer does not protect.
Session keysAn X3DH key agreement opens every conversation, then a Double Ratchet derives a fresh key for each message. Keys only move forward, so yesterday's messages stay sealed even if a device is compromised today.
CallsVoice and video are end-to-end encrypted. When two devices cannot connect directly, a relay forwards encrypted packets and nothing else.
IdentityA safety number per conversation that you can compare, and key transparency underneath: an account's public keys are published to an append-only log, so a substituted key leaves evidence.
Your deviceThe local message database is encrypted with a key kept in the device keychain, behind your device lock; Face ID, Touch ID or a passcode can be required on top.
DiscoveryUsernames are stored as a hash for lookup plus a ciphertext only holders of your link can open. No address book is ever uploaded, so there is no directory to leak.

Everything a messenger needs. Nothing it shouldn't have.
Messages and groups
One-to-one and group conversations, end-to-end encrypted by default. Replies, reactions and mentions included.
Username and QR code
Share a username, or let someone scan your code. Change it whenever you like; nobody can look you up any other way.
Photos, video and files
Images, videos, documents and voice messages travel through the same encrypted channel as your text.
Disappearing messages
Choose how long a conversation keeps its history, from seconds to weeks. It applies on both sides.
Free, with nothing to buy
No subscriptions, no in-app purchases and no advertising. There is nothing to upgrade to.
Verifiable, not just claimed
Every conversation has a safety number you can compare, and key transparency means a substituted key leaves permanent evidence.
Every call, encrypted end to end.
Voice and video, one-to-one and in groups. The same keys as your messages; the same rule that our servers see nothing.
Voice and video
One-to-one and group calls, encrypted on your device before a single frame leaves it.
Rings even when closed
Incoming calls ring on the lock screen with Answer and Decline, and keep ringing until the caller hangs up.
A relay that hears nothing
When two devices cannot connect directly, a relay forwards encrypted packets. It cannot decode audio or video.
Nothing missed
Calls you miss while the app is closed show up as missed calls in the conversation.
One app. One username. No phone number.
Install it, pick a username, and share it only with the people you want to hear from.
